UNESCO Fulbright Fellowship Program Application Essay

I am applying to the UNESCO Fulbright Fellowship Program to work in the Bureau of Strategic Planning (BSP) within the Division of Programme, Planning, Monitoring and Reporting. As a Fulbright Fellow, I am currently working as an English Teaching Assistant at Gwangyang High School in South Korea. I recently graduated from Williams College, in Williamstown, MA, where I majored in Economics with a concentration in Africana Studies. I am qualified for the UNESCO Fulbright Fellowship because I have a diligent work ethic, experience with research and economic analysis, and I adapt easily to new environments. Furthermore, having grown up and worked in seven different countries, four of which were in Africa, I have a significant international†¦show more content†¦In this role, I gained research and modeling experience and worked closely with government officials and EPRI’s director to meet deadlines. My experiences from this internship further intensified my desire to work to wards solutions for the complex problems facing governments and non-governmental organizations. Living in several developing countries during my childhood, I witnessed a richness of culture and life, but unfortunately matched by extreme poverty and hardship, which has shaped my thinking. Also, while growing up, enrolled in the disparate educational environments of several different countries and now teaching English in South Korea, I have been a part of a variety of approaches to education. I have seen the importance of increasing both the availability and the quality of education as a fundamental step in promoting development. Today I still feel a deep connection to developing nations and their people and want to expand on my previous work through this fellowship opportunity. As an Economics major at Williams, I developed a passion for Economics and a familiarity with Political Science and International Relations. In several of my classes, I completed coursework related to sustainable development and have conducted a research project on the Millennium Development Goals.
